Football NS announces the appointments of Brandon Jennings, as newly appointed Program Director and Gregor MacKellar as newly appointed Program Manager.
Both Jennings and MacKellar come with a wealth of football experience on and off the field.
Jennings graduated from the Community Development program with Honours at Acadia University and has spent the past two seasons coaching football with the Acadia Axeman. Previous to his coaching career, he suited up as a defensive back, punter, and kicker for the Axemen for five seasons from 2013-2018. Jennings was a USPORTS’ All-Canadian in 2016, won the Loney Bowl Championship in 2017, and in his final season with the Axemen, he was nominated for USPORTS’ Russ Jackson Award.
The native of St. Albert, Alberta also has playing experience in the Canadian Junior Football League (CJFL) with the Edmonton Wildcats and at the high school level with Paul Kane Blues and St. Albert Skyhawks. Jennings represented Alberta at the 2011 Football Canada Cup in Lethbridge where the team claimed a silver medal.
In his new role, Jennings will take on the task of growing and developing Football NS flag football programs at Saint Mary’s, Acadia and StFX, as well as athlete development within our provincial tackle programs.
Meanwhile MacKellar joins Football Nova Scotia during his off-season from the Canadian Football League’s (CFL) where he plays for current Grey Cup Champions, the Toronto Argonauts.
Selected sixth overall in the 2022, CFL Draft, the native of Timberlea, Nova Scotia has started in 12 of 16 games played with the Argonauts. Previous to the Argonauts, MacKellar enjoyed tremendous success with USPORTS’ St. Francis Xavier X-Men. During his tine there, the offensive lineman helped the X-Men to two Loney Bowl Championships in 2018 and 2021. He was a USPORTS All-Star in 2021 and an AUS All-Star in 2020 and 2021. Off the field, MacKellar studied Leadership Management at the university.
Having gone south of the border in 2017, he redshirted with NCAA Division 1 team, Rice Owls. He suited up for Conference of Independent Schools Athletic Association’s (CISAA) St. Andrew’s College Saints in Aurora, Ontario. MacKellar began his gridiron career with the Timberlea Titans Minor Football program in 2008. He also played for the Timberlea Renegades and Sir John A. MacDonald (now Bayview High) Flames.
MacKellar represented Canada at the International Bowl in Texas where he helped both the under-18 and under-19 teams defeat the United States in 2015. Additionally, he represented Nova Scotia at the Football Canada Cup in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in 2014 and Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec in 2015. MacKellar also represented the province as part of the under-17 squad at the Wilson Cup Challenge in Quebec in 2012 and 2013.
MacKellar will be focusing on promoting football across the province through regional try-clinics and school visits. In addition, he will be help with the organization and administration of official and provincial team programs.
